Puerto Banús will be one of the world headquarters of Formula 1 of the sea in 2024

The sporting event, which will be held on June 1 and 2, has as team captains, among others, Rafa Nadal, Sergio Pérez, Didier Drogba, Steve Aoki and Marc Anthony

Marbella once again becomes the venue for a world-class sporting event. Although this year has already received the ‘Solheim Cup’, by 2024 Puerto Banús will become one of the nine world headquarters of the E1 competition, the electric Formula 1 of the sea. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, who participated today in the presentation of the Cívitas Puerto Banús Grand Prix at the Provincial Council of Málaga, highlighted the impact that the event will have on the city, highlighting, among other aspects, the more than 1.1 billion followers on social networks of the captains of the participating teams, among them, the tennis player Rafa Nadal, the formula 1 driver Sergio Pérez, the soccer player Didier Drogba, the American NFL player Tom Brady, the DJ Steve Aoki or the artist Marc Anthony .

The councilor has pointed out that achieving this test “has not been an easy path” and has valued “the joint commitment between the administrations and Puerto Banús as an essential milestone for the balance to tip in favor of our candidacy.” “This race will position us as a unique destination,” stressed the first mayor, who also highlighted the values of sustainability and equality that this event implies. “It is an exclusively electric competition in which each team is made up of a man and a woman,” he indicated. Furthermore, he recalled that the city “has been betting on tourism linked to sport for many years, as demonstrated by events such as the Solheim Cup, the Ironman, the Davis Cup, the World Padel Tour or the Grand Prix of Rhythmic Gymnastics.”

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Tourism of Andalusia, Víctor González, stated during the presentation that it is a “pure 21st century” event, which foresees a reach of 160 million people and media and economic impacts on the destination of 15 and 26 million, respectively. Along these lines, the president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, has expressed that the Grand Prix “will become another boost to the tourism-sport binomial that we boast so much about on the Costa del Sol, expecting 20,000 visitors that weekend.”

«Sharing a venue with destinations such as Monaco, Venice, Hong Kong, Geneva, Jeddah and Rotterdam, among others, gives us an idea of the magnitude of this sporting event that, thanks to institutional collaboration, such as the Marbella City Council, the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol and the Junta de Andalucía, together with the Malaga Provincial Council, together with our infrastructure, we guarantee that it will be a complete success,” said Salado. Finally, the CEO of Puerto Banús, Juan Núñez, insisted that it was “a complicated competition because there were other venues that were very powerful.” “But with a serious and solid proposal we have achieved our objective and we are proud that our destination competes with other big names in the world,” said the head of the navy, who thanked the institutional support.
